On November 1, 2007 from 11:00am - 2:30pm ET, Project Management industry experts and International Institute for Learning, Inc. (IIL) came together to celebrate International Project Management Day™ with a live webcast, Power of the Profession.  They shared their views on how project management excellence keeps strategic initiatives on a successful track and what value-added opportunities project management has opened for businesses. Speakers included E. Seminar
In Kentucky, USA, the Louisville-based company Kindred Healthcare, with help from the PMI Kentuckiana Chapter, hosted a day-long event at which the keynote speaker, George Pitagorsky, PMP, explained key concepts of his book, The Zen Approach to Project Management. Mr. Pitagorsky emphasized theimportance of finishing projects and achieving customer satisfactionwithout generating unnecessary stress.

Formal proclamation for Project Management Week
Governor Ruth Ann Minner proclaimed 28 October—3 November Project Management Week in the state and presented the PMI Delaware Valley Chapter with a formal proclamation that recognized the many contributionsproject managers make to government, business and communityservice.

Michigan PMI Chapters
Webinar
The Michigan-based PMI Great Lakes Chapter and other PMI chapters in the state—Michigan Huron Valley, Michigan Capital Area, Michigan Thumb and Western Michigan—organized activities ranging from a Webinar to presentations to high school seniors on project management as a career.

PMI Washington, DC, Silver Spring, and Southern Maryland Chapters and University of Maryland
Seminar
The PMI Washington, DC, Silver Spring, and Southern Maryland Chapters hosted their Third Annual International Project Management Day event on 1 November, in partnership with the PMI accredited project management program at the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland. More than 180 people attended the free event, enjoying an opportunity to network with executives and practitioners, and also an opportunity to earn Professional Development Units (PDUs) toward credential maintenance.

Speakers examined real world challenges and solutions to standard project management methods and values that emerge in the global context. An important focus was recognition of good project management practices in organizations that conduct global projects, especially in the international development community.

PMI New Jersey Chapter
Seminar
John Bufe, president of the PMI New Jersey Chapter, welcomed a capacity crowd of 500 members to the chapter’s annual event and the celebration of the chapter’s 25th anniversary in Somerset, New Jersey, USA. The morning keynote speakers, John Cable, R.A., PMP, and Jocelyn Davis, gave a compelling presentation on “Optimizing the Global Team.” They related a history of the labor market from the 1960s through the 1990s, which focused on scheduling, teamwork, risk management and competing demands, with the common focus on doing more with less.

PMI Lahore, Pakistan Chapter
Dinner
The PMI Lahore, Pakistan Chapter organized a dinner function for its members to celebrate IPM Day. In his speech, Chapter President Khalid Ahmad Khan, PMP, noted that membership in the chapter has grown from 30 to 316 in the past three years. The number of Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential holders increased from two to 121 in the same period, thanks in part to regular certification training programs conducted by the chapter in collaboration with the Punjab government. At the event, Mr. Ahmad Khan announced the launch of the chapter’s newsletter and congratulated the editorial team. After the conclusion of other activities, the 88 attendees enjoyed an evening poolside barbeque dinner on the rooftop of Lahore Holiday Inn.

PMI United Kingdom Chapter
Informative conference
In the United Kingdom, the PMI United Kingdom Chapter convened at Maidenhead, England, where almost 200 delegates enjoyed an informative conference. This year’s focus was on celebrating successes within project management. Michel Thiry, PMP, PMI Fellow, of Valense Organizational Consultants, delivered the keynote speech on “Project Based Organisations: Integrating Projects, Programmes, Portfolio and PMOs to Deliver Value.” Presentations were given on everything from the Skynet 5 satellite system to the closure of the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons facility (the 2006 PMI Project of the Year). The closing speaker was Olympic rowing gold medallist Greg Searle, who gave a talk on “World Class Leadership: Creating an Environment Where Champions Are Inevitable.”

PMI Doctor Bird Chapter
Seminar
In Jamaica, the Kingston-based PMI Doctor Bird Chapter hosted morethan 100 project management practitioners, corporate leaders and government officials at an IPM Day seminar. The opening session was highlighted by a keynote address by Leachim Semaj, PhD, a renowned organizational psychologist who helped to set the tone for the seminar, which also included presentations by several experts on project management.
